Friday, December 12 at 7pm the Delta College Planetarium is hosting a free public screening of the new short documentary film, Dinosaur Fish: The Effort to Restore Lake Sturgeon in the Saginaw Bay

The Conservation Fund Great Lakes office and its local program the Saginaw Bay Watershed Initiative Network produced this 23-minute documentary film detailing efforts to bring this dinosaur back from the brink of extinction. A long-term effort to reintroduce Lake Sturgeon to the region, whose numbers stand at less than 1% of its historic population, the project has seen great success rearing and releasing fingerlings into four rivers in the Saginaw Bay watershed.

“We are happy to support such a worthwhile project by providing a unique space to debut the film,” says Mike Murray, planetarium manager. “One of our most popular planetarium shows is ‘Mysteries of the Great Lakes’ which focuses largely on the reintroduction of the Lake Sturgeon into the Great Lakes. The local and regional interest in the efforts to restore this prehistoric creature to its natural habitat is truly impressive.”

A Q&A session will be available at the end of the program, hosted by Mike Kelly, director of the Great Lakes Office for The Conservation Fund. This event is free and open to the public.

For details about the film, contact Mike Kelly at mkelly@conservationfund.org or call 989-892-9171.
